Clarifiers, Clariflocculators are widely used for reducing suspended solids load by coagulation and settling method. High Rate Solids Contact Clarifier is used in applications, where the inlet solids load is variable and if the solids are fine. Flocs formed in flocculation are settled in Tube or plate (lamella) settlers or in the settling zone of a clarifier. These equipment are used in river or lake water for high flow rates and also in ETP STPs

High Rate Solid Contact Clarifier is widely used for clarification of raw water and wastewater. These are designed to handle turbidity and to remove suspended solids. These units have an ability to offer turbidity less than 50 NTU at the outlet of clarifier.

UASB reactor is a high rate anaerobic treatment process where the bacteria responsible for anaerobic digestion are present in the form of sludge blanket. The bacteria grow and reside as bacterial flocs suspended in the up-flow effluent stream. The bacteria take upon organic content of wastewater to metabolize it and produce biogas and biomass. An up flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor is basically a tank that has a sludge bed in which organic material is dissolved in the wastewater is degraded, and as a consequence of this digestion, biogas is produced. A blanket zone is formed in the reactor where some particles of biomass are suspended and act as a separation zone between the water flowing up and the suspended biomass.
